my approach to massage

I love the ability to work with all kinds of clients and their different needs and goals which makes each session unique. I have been on both sides of the spectrum when it comes to my style with clients calling my style “nurturing and flowy” and others saying that I squished them like a tube of toothpaste haha! I am a small person, so I tend to give light-medium pressure when I use my hands and forearms, but I am able to get deeper pressure when I use a technique called ashiatsu which allows me to stand on the table and use my bodyweight to provide deep, broad, consistent pressure using clean bare feet. I like to tailor each session to the person I am seeing and I keep notes on everything so that I can remember what it is that each client likes, or didn’t like, in hopes to make each session comfortable and special. I have a background in aerial performance and instruction, and in welding and manufacturing positions, so I know just how helpful massage is not only to relieve immediate pain but to learn more about your own body. Sometimes we don’t even know we are holding tension until someone gets that spot and we go “wow!” it’s crazy to think how disconnected we can become from our bodies, and it’s a nice reminder for us to slow down sometimes and take care of this ol meat suit of ours from time to time.

what makes bloom different

Lemme tell ya what, it’s a one woman show over here, so I guess what makes it special is- me ? I am someone who loves to collect information, learn new things, and DO the things. I owned a service business for 7 years, so I am tuned into client experience. I like learning about each person (over time, I won’t bombard you with questions every session) , and designing experiences based on what each person said they like and didn’t. I hope that each person that has a session here will feel taken care of

what to expect at your appointment

Please arrive 15 minutes early to your first session- if you have extensive medical history I need to know that and would prefer 20 minutes so that I can create an effective treatment plan. Knowing your medical history is also important for me to insure that I don’t accidentally use techniques that can harm you.

If you have not had massage before: welcome! We will spend some time going over your intake form (medications, allergies, pressure requested etc). I will then let you know if we are starting prone (face down) or supine (face up). I’ll let you know to dress down to your comfort level. It is absolutely okay to keep your clothing on as well, any article of clothing that you need to feel safe. If you are ticklish, I would recommend wearing socks. Lay on the table and cover your body fully with the drape (the sheets).

Before the session I will ask if there are areas of focus that you want me to work on, and I will also ask you if there are areas that you wish me to not address. A typical massage session may include: face, scalp, neck, shoulders, pecs, arms, hands, abdomen (great for constipation, but can be uncomfortable, so I don’t massage this area unless requested or if you have persistent low back pain), quads, shins (more-so calves and fibialis muscles from the side and back), feet, calves, hamstrings, glutes, low back, and the entire back.

Each session will run its allotted time- so it is important that you arrive 5-10 min early to each appointment so that I can ask about changes to your health history and what the goal for the session is that day. If you are interested in different modalities like cupping, hot stone, or bamboo please let me know. It is no additional charge to the session. However, if you would like to extend your session, it will be $20 for 15 additional minutes.

During the massage- you have the right and are encouraged to let me know if the pressure is too much or too little, if you want me to move to another area, or if you feel uncomfortable for any reason and would like to end the session.

Professional draping will be used during the session. If you have sciatic pain or pain low back/glutes then I may ask if you are comfortable with a higher drape (exposing one or both glutes but never the gluteal cleft), it is absolutely fine to decline and I can instead work compression over the drape, or avoid glutes altogether.

Take your time getting up after the end of your session. Payment is taken in form of cash, card, or local checks. My prices are inclusive of MN taxes and tip. If you rebook within 4 weeks of your last session then the following massage will be $10 off as a loyalty reward. If you really LOVE massage, I do have a referral program that you are welcome to inquire about :)
